There will be a District Court hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 4 addressing an ongoing dispute between Socorro County’s treasurer and board of commissioners about tax billing software.
At the Socorro City Council Meeting Monday night, Mayor Ravi Bhasker said the state’s attorney general’s office ruled that the customary “short-term salary adjustment” given to employees in November violated New Mexico’s constitutional anti-donation clause.
County Finance Director Michael Steininger said making the salary increase conditional on future services would put it in compliance with the state’s anti-donation clause.

A woman in Polvadera reported at 11 p.m. that her brother had come home drunk and started to beat her. She said she did not know why he hit her and stated that he told her not to report it and that if she did, he would kill her. Officers noted physical evidence of her being battered.
